This tip should work for some of us who find the Dashboard too slow on older Macs. Applicable to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
Open Terminal
Then type in…
> defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
> killall Dock
Insert applause here…
